Disney Day

Yesterday I went to Disneyland with friends!  I wore what I call "cutesy casual".

With Rapunzel. I asked Flynn about the tiara and when he showed it to me, it was missing a few stones, which I pointed out.  She got mad at him and told him that she let him hold it so nothing would happen.
Outfit breakdown
Sweater- Tralala
Top- Sanrio
Skirt- Target
Boots- Secret Shop

With the Fairy Godmother.  My friend suggested I take a picture with her because "I'm a princess".  Maybe she can help me find a prince XD

Loot.  The doll is a cosplay reference... this weekend I was working on embroidery patterns for the skirt, and I couldn't find any shots of the back of the skirt hem.  But after looking at the doll, it looks to be accurate, so I'll be using it for the embroidery patterning on the hem.  The pin is one I've been wanting for a while, but it was out of stock for quite a while.

But the best part was finding the Master Key disk!
When I found out it was released, my friend and I went on an epic journey to 15 Targets trying to find one.  She found one but I didn't.  At California Adventure I was asking at every store, and they didn't have any (apparently there is only one in each box of disks).  But at the last store they had it.  I was so excited!

As with my black disk, I modified it to look more like the disks in the movie.  At elecTRONica people kept asking if my black one was a special replica when all I did was remove the outer ring haha!  I did the same with this one.

Other than that, I've just been working and going to class.  It's a bit strange to be back in school after a year!

elecTRONica and such

Last night I went to elecTRONica with my friend, and I actually took some nice pics this time!
Outfit shot.  Yes, it's pretty much the same one.  I did modify my identity disk though; they come with a ring around the edge, which indicates battle mode.  Since I'm not battling anyone I removed it.  People kept thinking that it was some special prop replica haha!

Makeup shot.  I did similar makeup to my siren makeup.  I used a different powder and didn't add the pigments this time, as well as using a bit less and not drawing on the eyebrows.  I guess it looked pretty good because people kept asking if I worked there!

With Eckert again.  Now he has a wig.  I think it looked better with the other hair, but I'm not in charge.  I'd have him wear a wig that looks like Castor's in the film.

In front of Flynn's.  I don't usually play anything there because I'm terrible at video games.  I tried to play TRON once and died quite quickly.

My friend and I have also been on a hunt for the white identity disk.  Between the 2 of us, we've been to 8 stores and still have not found it!  I really need it for my costume that I'm making so I hope I can find it soon.

Times Have Changed

Today on EGL there was a post about "oldschool lolita".  It got me thinking.

I first learned of the fashion in 2006.  I heard the term at conventions and decided to look up what it was.  I liked it.  I watched the film "Kamikaze Girls" and liked it even more.  However, I couldn't commit.  At the time I was very involved in cosplay and didn't really have time to make lolita clothes (I had determined that brand was too expensive).

But in 2007, at Pacific Media Expo, a friend and I wandered into the Angelic Pretty boutique.  Well, wandered isn't the right word.  More like we were bored and decided to check it out.  It was there that I purchased my first brand items (a bag and a pair of socks) and thus began my lolita journey.  That was over 3 years ago.

Now, how does this relate to times changing?

This was my first "dream dress", if you will.  I saw it in "Kamikaze Girls" and loved it.  My first lolita dress that I made was inspired by it (I had meant it to be a replica, but I couldn't find the proper fabric, so I made a simpler version).
My first lolita coordinate.    With my lovely French Toast blouse haha!

These days, that dress is considered boring and plain.  When I got into lolita, Angelic Pretty was only just beginning to get popular.  They did not ship internationally, and the only way to get it was through a shopping service.   Baby and Meta ruled the lolita kingdom.

How soon that changed.

For most of my time in lolita, Angelic Pretty has been the brand to have, mainly because of their prints.  Solids and other patterns died away in popularity.  These days, it's rare to see solid colored items on the sales community and when you do, they are often left until the price drops drastically.

Three years ago, wearing a cotton candy pink wig would have been scoffed at.  Now it is the norm.  Rockinghorse shoes were the thing to have, now it's tea parties.  The only replicas around were Secret Shop shoes, now it seems every new print has a replica on taobao.

I went through a time where I wanted every new print that Angelic Pretty put out, until I finally just realized that they weren't for me.  I now own one Angelic Pretty dress: Lady Rose.  It's my favorite print and I'll never sell it, but most of their prints are just too much for me.

The times have changed.  To many, this is great: lolita is the extreme fashion that they always wanted.  To me, it's begun to lose its charm.  What I consider elegant and pretty are boring to others.

I will go forward being "boring", but to me that's alright.  I'd rather feel elegant and have everyone else think me boring than wear what's considered "in" and feel ridiculous.

New Years Eve

Happy New Years!

For New Years Eve I went to Round 1 with several of my friends.  It's an arcade that has Karaoke, Bowling, Purikura, Arcade games and Crane Games.  It was a lot of fun, we did some Karaoke (which was amazing!) and I won a Korilakkuma plush!

I wore GAL style for it, even though the theme was futuristic.  I didn't have anything futuristic so I just wore GAL.

Headbow: 6% DokiDoki
Dress, Skirt: Tralala
Socks: Angelic Pretty
Shoes: Antaina
Purse: Taobao (and it broke... first time I used it too :( )

My hair is boring because my head still kind of hurts from where it got cut open, so a lot of styling is painful.  So I just did the teased bun look.  Not the best GAL hair but I'll take what I can get.

I hope everyone else had a good New Years too!
